On 9 November 2005 during the
state visit of Chinese President
Hu Jingtao to the United Kingdom, a number of agreements
were
signed betweeen Chinese and British companies in the
areas of
trade, science and technology,and education.
Among the most interesting was the wide-reaching agreement
signed between Shanghai Industrial
Investment(Holdings)Co.,Ltd.(SIIC)and Arup,the UK
planning,engineering and consultancy firm,which was
witnessed
by both the Chinese President and consultancy firm,which
was
witnessed by both the Chinese President and British
Prime
Minister Tony Blair.This agreement confirmed the aim
of
developing the World's first eco-city at Dongtan,Shanghai.
